TO Introduces FYI: The Will Pitt Blog
Saturday 01 January 2005 @ 05:25
This thing isn't supposed to go live until Monday, but there is something that has needed to be cleared up for a while now.Doug Ireland gave me a nice welcome to the blogosphere (thanks, Doug!), and said in his welcome, "William Rivers Pitt, author and master of revels at the first-rate news-site truthout..."Another example of the phenomenon in need of correction was offered by Eric Francis, owner of the website Planet Waves, who recently nominated me 'Dude of the Year' by saying, "I nominate William Rivers Pitt, editor and lead guitarist of http://truthout.org, as Planet Waves dude of the year, an honor we have bestowed annually since 1741." I am, of course, floored by the honor. Seriously. Now I can die in peace.
The thing that needs correcting immediately is the fact that I am neither 'master of revels' nor 'lead guitarist' here at TO. A lot of people think this website is a one-man band, and that as the most prominent person here, I must be the founder and main grist-miller.T'ain't the case. TO is run my a man named Marc Ash, who as Executive Director is the Master and Commander at the wheel of this ship. Marc founded TO after the 2000 election debacle, and every good thing that has happened with this site is due to his diligence and dedication. Our Managing Editor, Scott Galindez, has also been here at TO since the very berginning, and has as much to do with everything that happens here as Marc.Beyond them are thirteen or so other staffers, literally all across the world from India to France to Florida to Colorado, who are the reason this site does what it does. So the next time you want to thank me for what happens here, remember that I am standing in a large crowd of incredible people, and that they deserve far more credit for what we do than me.
Clarification over. Please return to nursing your hangovers.- wrp
Coming on Monday...
Friday 31 December 2004 @ 03:46
It was bound to happen sooner or later. The powers-that-be at t r u t h o u t have decided it is time for me to get into the blogging game. Thus, beginning on Monday this page will become an integral part of the news reporting done by this organization. I will be updating this page several times per day, and on days when an important story is breaking, the updates will likely come in a blizzard. In a few weeks, after an initial shakeout period, we will introduce to this blog the forum/response feature common to many other blogs. Once that happens, you can reply to stories posted here, and also get involved in the compilation of research and analysis for issues that we are following.TO will, of course, remain the main source for news and information. This blog will serve to augment that process. So, for example, the next time I have an important story unfolding, you will hear about it here first, but the main story will be posted on the TO home page before being ported over here in link form.Whenever I go winging off to cover a story, I will use this page to post reports. The first of these on the horizon is the January 6th hearing before Congress to confirm the Electors from the November vote. I plan on being inside the Congressional chamber to report on what unfolds with my own eyes, and if Rep. Conyers does manage to find a Senator to stand up with him, we will be watching history unfold...and you can read about it here, live as it happens.Bookmark this link, and keep an eye on it starting Monday. Until then, have a great weekend and a great New Years Eve. Amateur Night is always so entertaining.- wrp
