While many of us on the progressive left have been protesting the Unconstitutional suspension of civil rights and equal protection under the law embodied in the Patriot Act, The Corporatist, Neo-Fascist Neo-Cons of the Bush Administrationand the ruling elite behind them have been busy with a program much more insidious and dangerous. It has gone almost unnoticed as it flies under the radar screens of American consciousness, left or right. They are quietly putting in place the groundwork for a totalitarian state down the road that will happen in ways that unsuspecting citizens will hardly even notice. Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, in his essay, "The Therapeutic Nanny State" clearly outlines the governmental plot by PresidentBush in 2002 by executive order creating the "New FreedomCommission on Mental Health." On the surface the "New Freedom on Mental Health and its recommendations see minocuous enough until one realizes what it is calling for and its implication for the invasion and disregard for personal rights andprivacy. Legislation is already pending in Congress to eventually require every person in the USA to submit to psychological screens for mental health. Those who test as psychologically deficient will be forced to take corrective drugs.This is already being implemented in many of our schools on our children by guaranteeing compliance on behalf of State andlocal officials to comply or lose Federal Education funds. In some states it is already legal in schools where an estimated 4 million children are being forced to ingest the drug Ritalin. Parents who object are threatened with prison, or having custody of their children taken away. It is already a reality that the Bush Administration has illegally removed all environmental regulation from major polluting corporations and that our children are becoming brain damaged through increased levels of mercury, lead, arsenic, dioxins andother chemical pollutants in the air we breath and the water we drink. Under legislation now pending before Congress, every man,woman and child in America will eventually be required toundergo psychological screenings for mental health run by the government. Participation will be mandatory, and any citizen judged deficient will be subject to forced drugging by the state. The program is part of President Bush's "New Freedom Commission on Mental Health." Some $44 million in initial funding is included in a massive, omnibus "must pass"appropriations bill now pending before Congress. As you might expect, the pending law has the whole-hearted support of the pharmaceutical industry. How bad is this bill? As the conservative web site, NewsMax.com, reports, the bill "includes funding for grants to implement universal mental health screening for almost 60 million children, pregnant women, and adults through schools and preschools." This ominous, authoritarian legislation will vastly increase the federal government's control over the lives of everyone inAmerica, and sadly it will likely pass - unless there is massive public opposition. The consequences could well be tragic for millions of Americans. Some 4 million children are already given the powerful psycho-active drug Ritalin, in many cases against their parent's wishes. Parents who have tried to take their children off Ritalin have been threatened with loss of custody of their children and imprisonment for "child abuse" - even when Ritalin has dulled their children's minds, made them suicidal, or had other debilitating effects. The Bush administration's handouts to pharmaceuticalcompanies just keep on coming. First, it was the Medicare discount drug card scam which turned out to be a system that guaranteed pharmaceutical industry profits thanks to sky-high prices of prescription drugs (the discounts were nonexistent). Next, it was the initiation of an anti-terror drug research program where the government would spend billions of dollars buying and stockpiling expensive drugs and vaccines to counter biological weapons. And now, it's the announcement thatPresident Bush wants to mandate the mental health screening of the entire U.S. population. Why is this a handout to drug companies? Because these so-called mental health "disorders" are often fictitious diseases (like ADHD) that can easily be attributed to nearly anyone.
